Families Spend Active Time Together at Family Fun Day
On Saturday, December 5th from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Athletes’ Training Center hosted the first Family Fun Day. The morning included fun, family interactive relays, games and other activities, lunch and prizes. There was no cost to participate in the event.
The day started with an ice breaker followed by a skills challenge. Participants took turns throwing various sports balls at targets secured across a 30 ft. by 24 ft. net from a variety of distances. The day’s schedule also included fun games, relays and an obstacle course designed by Tim Huber, strength and conditioning intern and UNO student. The two hour event concluded with food and prize drawings. The Howards, winners of a $25 gift card to HyVee, enjoyed themselves and valued the family time together. Lorraine Howard said their family, new to the Omaha area, looks for events like this to stay active as a family and meet new people.
Family Fun Day was inspired by Dave Banghert, 74 years old, and his grandson Blake Banghert, 12 years old. They work out together each week with fitness coaches at Athletes’ Training Center. Dave is the director, team manager and player for the Senior Softball League in Omaha. Blake is a golfer and baseball player. Danielle Kleber, Director of Marketing, said, “Seeing the example Dave sets for his grandson made us realize that families need to be active together. We combined that with our desire to be a community resource and the idea of Family Fun Day was born.”
Kleber also added there will be future Family Fun Days planned and families can learn more by calling 402-932-7111 or visiting www.atcomaha.com. Athletes’ Training Center is located in the Millard Area at 138th and Industrial Road.
